Passport Name Change – Steps by Step Procedure: a blog about the steps needed to perform for name change in passport.

In case the name on your passport does not match your current legal name, such as after marriage, divorce, or because of gender transition, take the following steps:

The documents required for a name change may vary depending on the reasons. However, the following documents are essential:

1. Name Change Affidavit (Notary Public)

2. News Paper Publication (National and Local Papers)

3.Gazzette Notification

 

1. Prepare Name Change Affidavit (Notary Public).

Get a 20 Rs e-stamp in your name from your nearest e-stamp center and type the below content and 

Notaries with Notary Public.

Note:- A Notary Public stamp costs approximately 50-100 rupees at Kavery Bhavan or Mayo Hall.

Total Cost:- E-stamp+Notary Stamp= 30+100=130 Rs.

2.Put News Paper Advertisement(National and Local Papers).

Choose the newspaper you wish to run the ads in. Examples:- The Times of India, Hindustan Times, The Indian Express, Sanjevani, Udayavani, Kannada Prabha, etc. The higher the standard, the more expensive it will be. You need to publish two ads in Kannada and English. A newspaper agency may ask for an affidavit of what you have prepared.

 

Collect the physical copy of the newspaper in which you have published an ad and bring it with you when you visit the passport office.

 

The procedure needs to be followed before going to the passport.

1. Visit passport's official website www.passportindia.gov.in 

 

 

 

2. Click the New User Registration Tab and register your ID.

 

 

3. Login with your new details.

 

 

 

4. on the sidebar click Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport

 

 

 

5. On the next page click Click here to fill out the application form online

 

 

 

 

6. In Page Passport Type, Click➜Re-issue of Passport, Click➜ Change In Existing Personal Particular, Click☑ Given Name,OR Click➜☑Surname depending on your case.

 

7. Please complete the remaining pages as per your personal information.

8. This page requires you to fill in the previous passport information.

 

 

 

8.Submit Form.

 

 

9. Pay the Fees

10. Schedule Appointment.

11. Visit the Passport Office along with the Scheduled Appointment ➕ Physical Copy of News Paper Ads➕ 2 Address Proff in the current name.

 

Before visiting the passport office, make sure to update the present name in any 2 address proofs.

 

 

In this article, I have written about changing the name on a passport; however, an affidavit and newspaper advertisement are sufficient to inform about the name change, and a gazette notification is not mandatory if you are unwilling to follow the above procedure.
